Do Not Pass Me By

“He said, “if I have found favor in your eyes, my Lord, do not pass your servant by. Genesis 18:3

Do you all remember the song “Pass Me Not, O gentle Savior”?

I listened to this song today and it took me back to the days when my grandfather would sit at the table early mornings and read his bible. He did this every single morning for as long as I can remember. No matter what was going on that day, grand-da (as I would call him) always made time every morning to read the WORD before he started his day. I wish I were that disciplined!

I was taken back to my childhood when I heard this song today and wanted to share it with you. It is an oldie, but goodie! The first verse goes like this:

Pass me not, O gentle Savior,
Hear my humble cry;
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.
Savior, Savior,
Hear my humble cry;
While on others Thou art calling,
Do not pass me by.

Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful!

I wonder if this is how Abraham felt when GOD appeared with two Angels in his tent. Can you imagine if you were sitting on your porch or in front of your house, and GOD appeared in human form? What would you do? Would you recognize him? I like to think I would feel like Abraham did if this were to happen to me. Although Abraham may not have been sure this was GOD, he did feel something! He knew something was special and anointing about these strangers, for him to plead for them to stop. For him to ask if favor was found in their eyes. He felt something!

You know that old saying, “be careful how you treat people because you never know if you are entertaining angels.” I will go even further and say, we never know if we are entertaining GOD himself. Who is to say that cannot happen? GOD is all powerful, is HE not? HE can do whatever HE wants. I just pray that I am prepared when HE does. I pray that I will feel what Abraham felt.

We do not know who GOD places in our lives and what they may look like. We do not know what message they are meant to share with us. This is why prayer is so important. Prayer allows us to connect with GOD on a personal level. It opens us up spiritually, which allows our spirit to connect with those like HIM.

This week someone posted a picture that captured a quote by Denzel Washington, “If you listen carefully enough, someone will tell you exactly the kind of person they are. Sit back and listen.“ This is a profound statement, but many take it in a negative context, which I understand why they would. I challenged my Facebook friends; however, to think of it another way. I posted the following, “how many people in your life were/are a blessing and you could not or would not see it?” I went on to say, “it is good to protect yourself, but not at the expense of blocking the people GOD places in your life to elevate you. Do not be bitter from your past, get better for your future.” There are always other ways to look at things.

I understand the need to be on guard sometimes, especially when we are dealing with past hurt. However, we must also keep a pure and loving heart. Remember GOD’s word, “Create in me a clean heart.” This will help us see people the way GOD wants us to see them. Sometimes, it may be negative, but sometimes not. Sometimes it just might be one of GOD’s angels sent to teach and lead us. Even if we do not like what is being said, sometimes, we need to hear it.

Just think about what you would do if GOD showed up at your door. What would you do? Better yet, what if you found out HE was coming to your neighborhood, what would you do to make sure HE stopped by to see you? What would you say? Would you scream at the top of your lungs, “Do Not Pass Me By!!”

If you get a moment, google that song, and close your eyes and meditate on the words. They are absolutely beautiful. And today as part of your prayers, say to the LORD, ‘do not pass me be!” Let HIM know you seek to be near HIM.

May God Bless you,

In His service,

Minister Marshall
