“Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God— the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scripturesregarding his Son, who as to his earthly lifewas a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in powerby his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes fromfaith for his name’s sake. And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.” (Roman 1:1-6, NIV)
For the last two weeks, my Pastor, in his sermon, provided a glimpse into the life of Paul. This glimpse has fascinated me and caused me to dive a little deeper into the life of this man, who wrote more than fourteen books of the bible.
Paul was dedicated to stopping the spread of Christianity in the early days. “For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it. I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers.” (Galatians 1:13 – 14, NIV). He led the first wave of persecution against the early church.
He traveled to Damascus to further stop the spread of Christianity, and it was there he met JESUS, who spoke directly to HIM. “He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” (Acts 9:4, NIV). Through the mercies of GOD who blinded him, and later restored his sight, Paul repented and received the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Paul, who was once against Christianity, and persecuted others who were, transformed his life and started to spread the gospel worldwide. Paul spent a few years in Arabia studying the WORD. Paul had a strong ministry, and HE was placed in prison, like many he had placed in prison himself. However, while spending time in prison Paul never lost his faith. Do you see how GOD works?
I wanted to share this quick glimpse into Paul’s life to show you that, even one of JESUS most adamant enemies became one of HIS most devout followers. Irrespective of what Paul did during the years when he was against Christianity, when he repented, he received the Holy Spirit. HE worshipped and served Christ until the day he died.
No matter where you are in your life, no matter how far removed you believe you are from CHRIST, no matter what you have done in the past, you can still find your way home to our LORD and savior. If Paul’s heart was changed, so can yours.
God bless you,
In his service,
