It’s a Wonderful Life!

“Lord, help me to hear you saying, “I am your hope” over all the other voices. Lord, your word says, you are the hope for hopeless so I’m running to you with both hands stretched out and grabbing on to you. Fill me up with hope and give me a tangible reminder today that hope is an unbreakable spiritual lifeline” (Hebrews 6:19-20).

Do you remember the movie “It’s a wonderful life”? It is considered an all-time Christmas favorite. It is truly a beautiful movie. One of the lines that have become famous is what George said to Mary. He asked her, “What is it you want, Mary? What do you want? You want the moon? Just say the word and I’ll throw a lasso around it and pull it down. Hey. That’s a pretty good idea. I’ll give you the moon, Mary.” -George. This was a line from a young man trying to profess his love to a girl who later became his wife.

However, there were other parts of the movie that touched my heart as well. The movie began with the voices of many people in George life sending prayers up to GOD for him. George was going through some tough times, and people who cared for him, wanted GOD to look over him. In the movie, the voice of GOD assigned an angel to look over George in response to the many prayers HE received. And GOD told the angel that he must first look to George past to understand his future. Now that was a WORD! The movie was a narrative of George life leading up to one important night.

This really was a beautiful movie which showed an underdog of the world, who truly loved and considered his people, even at his own detriment. He was not rich, but he was a good man who truly cared for others. Being a good man did not solve the problems George faced in his life.

Sadly, often we find ourselves as underdogs trying to do the right thing for the betterment of our fellow man. Consequently, there will always be those who try to take things away from us. Those who want to take the little we have, to add to their fortunes for no other reason than Greed! They disguise themselves as friends trying to help us out, however, they want to do the complete opposite. As with the rich banker who offered George a job if George would give up his company to work for him. He promised George a very good deal, but George refused to accept it. George continued to do what was right, and it was not easy for him, but he never gave up.

Unfortunately, someone from Georges’ company made a big mistake that would have placed George in big trouble and George got desperate. George went to the very man he knew better to stay away from because the man never meant him any good. George begged the man for help, and in return, the man told George that he was worth more dead than alive.

Like many of us, when things get too much to handle, we consider doing things we would not normally do. George was ready to give up and contemplated suicide. This is when the Angel from GOD appeared to show George how life would be if he had not been born. The Angel wanted to remind George that his life had meaning even if at that time, he did believe it did.

I can go on and on about this movie, but I will not spoil it for you just in case you have not seen it and want to. However, I will end with this, when George was at his lowest point, he called on the LORD. He was sitting at the bar, drowning in his sorrows, and he prayed, “Dear Father in heaven, I’m not a praying man, but if you’re up there and you can hear me, show me the way… show me the way.-George. It was shortly after this prayer that George was punched in the face by a man he argued with earlier in the day. George then said, “That is what I get for praying”. WOW!

If only George knew the many prayers GOD received on his behalf. Prayers that were received long before George prayed for himself.

We truly have a wonderful life, filled with many blessings, even if at times, we do not see them. Even if everyone else considers us the underdogs, if we continue to do GODS’ will, we will not be underdogs to HIM. HE will bless us abundantly and give us more than we can ever dream of.

I encourage you to see this movie. It is an old black and white movie filled with many lessons from the LORD. Yes, the quotes are beautiful, but the messages are powerful.

It is a Wonderful Life!

God bless you,

In His service,

Reverend Marshall
