“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7

This is an excerpt from a Sermon I gave on yesterday as my church celebrated “Worship in Pink”, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness month. I wanted to share it with you.

Breast cancer is a scary thing no matter what your exposure, but we serve an awesome GOD and through HIM – you have the POWER to take control no matter what the diagnosis. You have the POWER to help yourself if you are sick or be an encouragement to others who may be sick. This is because you are a Christian and you walk with the POWER given to you from GOD! But you must believe.

The POWER I am talking about stands for Prayer; Obedience; Worship; Encouragement and Remaining Faithful.

Therefore, I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.Mark 11:24.

No matter what is going on in your life, and in the life of those around you, you want to take it to GOD in prayer. This is one of your strongest weapons as a Christian, but many of us forget how to use it. Through prayer we can speak openly about our fears. We can be honest and vulnerable. We can cry, scream, and completely break down if we want to. And this is what GOD wants. HE wants us to tell HIM all about it so he can reassure us and tell us what to do. But you want to be still and listen.

O – Obedience

“Why do you call me Lord, and not do what I tell you? Luke 6:46.

It seems like a silly question doesn’t it? But how many of us are guilty of doing just that. Calling him LORD, but doing what we want, and not what He tells us to do. I know this is especially hard when we are on our bed of affliction or know someone who is. We turn to GOD and ask HIM to help us through it, and when HE tries, we ignore HIM. When you become obedient to GOD, your faith increases, and in turn you focus even more on HIM, and less on all the other things going on in your life.  When we are truly obedient, our lives change and so does our worship.

W – Worship

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of GOD’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to GOD- this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what GOD’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:1-2

Like many of you, I have found it is so easy to Worship GOD when things are going well. We are happy, healthy, our family is good – and life feels perfect. We are full of worship. However, we must also learn how to worship GOD when it hurts. Worshipping GOD allows us to trust HIM, even if we do not understand what HE is doing. When you learn to worship GOD through your pain, your worship becomes real.

E – Encouragement

Therefore, we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So, we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but is unseen is eternal”. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18.

Jesus tells us that we will have troubles in this world, it’s a guarantee. However, HE also promises that we will have victory through our faith because Jesus Christ has overcome the world. If you are facing hard and uncertain times, you can be encouraged to press on knowing that you are an overcomer! HE will see us through. No matter what. We must stay encouraged so that we can be an encouragement to others. Don’t give up. Stay encouraged and keep up the good fight.

R – Remain Faithful

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed way”. Revelation 21:4 NIV.

No matter what you are going through, or how hopeless things may seem, remain faithful. Know that GOD will not let you down, or let you go. He will see you through any situation you face, just trust in HIM. Hold on to your faith!

I pray that everyone reading this will never lose a loved one to breast cancer or any other disease. However, if you do remember your P.O.W.E.R.

Pray to GOD and ask HIM for understanding; be obedient to what is revealed to you, worship HIM even when you are hurting, stay encouraged because GOD will make a way, and through it all remain faithful. Never lose faith!

In his service,

Minister Marshall
