“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
If you are familiar with the story of Leah in the bible, may recall she is not the most recognized or highly visible character in the bible. Her story begins in Genesis 29. In short, she was the older sister of Rachel who the bible said was the most beautiful of the two. Jacob was in love with Rachel and wanted to marry her. As part of the deal to marry Rachel, he worked for her father Laban for seven years. On his wedding night after a feast of eating and drinking, Jacob thought he would have Rachel, but was given Leah instead. Jacob married Rachel one week later, but never loved Leah as he did her younger sister. Although Leah gave Jacob several children, she never received his love in return.
Although she was not considered the beautiful one… Although, she was part of a deceptive plot to trick a man to labor for her father, GOD used her to put forth the most important event in the bible. Leah’s’ sons became half the tribes of Israel, which included the line of Judah, from which was born our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ. Despite her beginnings, GOD had a plan for Leah, and she became a blessing to us all!
I encourage you to read the entire story of Leah in the bible. In it you will see the magnificent works of our Heavenly father. You may learn through her story, that no matter how bad things may be, do not lose faith because you may not know what your purpose is.
You may be passed over for a job or promotion.
You may not feel as appreciated as you should.
You may feel as if no one knows the sacrifices you make for the sake of others.
You may have been used by someone you care about.
You may be pulled in several directions, with no time for yourself.
You may be carrying the world on your shoulders, and you just need a break.
You may ask GOD – why me LORD?
Just know that GOD is in every situation. HE has a plan for you, although you may not know what it is. Just keep doing what you do. Keep giving the love GOD placed in your heart. Keep being a blessing to others. Keep applying for those jobs. Just keep being that beautiful person you are. If no one else sees you…GOD does, and HE is working things out for your good.
Stay encouraged. Continue to pray, and never let the reactions (or lack thereof) of others dictate who you are or who you want to become. Do things that are pleasing in the sight of the LORD and know that you are worthy.
You may not know your purpose, but GOD does!
In his service,
